Question: Can a Christian drink alcohol?
Answer:
The abuse of alcohol is never condoned in the Bible. The Bible has a lot to say about the dangers of alcohol and the problems that await those who become addicted to it. The abuse of alcohol brings disappointment, sickness and death, and destroys marriages and other relationships.
We are instructed in Ephesians 5:18, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
But what if one could drink alcohol without abuse? Another Bible concern is the indirect impact of your influence on others. Though one might never abuse alcohol, his or her use of it could cause a fellow believer to indulge and fall victim to addiction. The Apostle Paul told the Church, “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). We have a responsibility, as believers, to be examples of godly behavior and holy living.
In the end, the choice of whether or not to abstain from alcohol must be made personally with the Lord’s direction. At KCM we believe it is wise for a believer to abstain from alcohol completely.
